ACL Injuries Will Strike 38,000 Female Athletes This Year

With the weather warming up and the sun hanging around longer throughout the day, many youth athletes will be gearing up for a variety of sports. From competitive club sports to a pick up game in the park, most kids will participate in some sports.

However, these sports will hold more risk for females than males. A 1999 study in the Journal of Athletic Training found the incidence of non-contact ACL knee injuries were 3-8 times higher for female soccer and basketball players than males who participate in the same sport. As club sports get more competitive there is more emphasis on performance and less on prevention of injury. Male soccer, basketball, and lacrosse players are still at a greater risk of ACL knee injuries than those of other sports such as football and hockey.

But a recent study found that with preventative training, incidence of knee injuries can decrease by 50-85%! Yet, most parents aren’t sure where to find this preventative training. Most sport coaches only teach the skills of the sports, but aren’t equipped to teach the fitness and injury prevention component.

From June 4-July 13th, Pair & Marotta Peak Performance will run their summer Speed, Strength & Power: Soccer Camp. The goal of the camp is to prepare soccer players for the upcoming season by improving their agility, reaction time and strength, to help minimize the risks of injuries. Athletes leave the 6-week camp stronger, more powerful, and less prone to injury.

There are multiple camps available for different age groups. Each camp will have different meeting days, times and prices. For more information, visit our website at Contact or call 661-912-9991.
