Five Kern County schools that applied for California’s “Distinguished Schools” awards were recently honored by the California Department of Education (CDE). The schools designated “distinguished” include Juliet Thorner School and Franklin School from Bakersfield City School District, W.A. Kendrick School from Greenfield Union School District, and Almondale Elementary School and Patriot Elementary School from Rosedale Union School District. They are five of the 387 exemplary California public elementary schools that will be honored in six regional ceremonies. Kern County’s schools will be honored at the Holiday Inn Visalia - Hotel & Conference Center on May 14 at an event co-hosted by the Fresno County Office of Education.

“We are so fortunate in Kern County to have educators who care passionately about children,” says Kern County Superintendent of Schools, Christine Lizardi Frazier. “These distinguished schools are shining examples of the many schools in Kern County that provide effective public Education, and they are to be commended for their dedication to excellence.”

The Distinguished School Awards Program focuses on California’s students and their entitlement to an equitable and rigorous Education. The program identifies and honors those schools that have demonstrated educational excellence for all students and progress in narrowing the achievement gap.
