Zane Smith, Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County, was named the 2012 Pacific Region Executive of the Year acknowledging his contributions to the club and our community.  The Pacific Region includes California, Arizona, Oregon, Nevada and Utah.

Smith began as the Executive Director in 1996. At that time, the Boys & Girls Club was housed in an old, run-down church that served about 45 kids a day, had annual budget less than $250,000, and was close to shutting its doors. Within that first year as Executive Director, Smith lead the organization out of its financial woes while at the same time managing the $1.5 million construction of a brand new Boys & Girls Club facility.

“It is Zane’s vision, passion, beliefs, and commitment to the kids in our community that has continued to lead this organization to where we are today,” says Barry Hill, Associate Executive Director, Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County.  “The Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County has a committed program team of over 400 youth development professionals at 53 traditional and school-based sites providing programs and activities for over 5,500 children daily after school in Kern County thanks to the leadership of Zane Smith, this year’s Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Pacific Region Executive of the Year.”
