Wendy Wayne's Legacy of Cooperation Remembered with Scholarship Fund

San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) and Dignity Health-Mercy and Memorial Hospitals have partnered to make a joint $20,000 donation to the nursing school scholarship fund at California State University Bakersfield (CSUB) in Wendy Wayne’s honor.

Wayne, 64, died June 17, 2012 after a long battle with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. For the last two years, Wayne had been the project coordinator for the SJCH Cancer Center. SJCH and Mercy and Memorial Hospitals are now further honoring Wayne, who graduated from CSUB in 1978 with a degree in nursing, with this nursing scholarship.

“Wendy epitomized the spirit of cooperation, and it is in that same spirit that we are joining with Memorial and Mercy hospitals to donate to the scholarship named for her,” said Jarrod McNaughton, SJCH’s vice president of marketing and development.

Robin Mangarin-Scott, Dignity Health’s Director of Strategic Marketing, said, “Wendy’s time as a nurse meant the world to her; I’m sure she is smiling.”
