Bakersfield Homeless Center Receives Afterschool Grant

school_kids
The Bakersfield Homeless Center recently received a $5,000 grant award from PG&E to provide computers for their Champ Camp afterschool program. School-aged kids who reside at the Bakersfield Homeless Center will use the computers for their tutoring and homework needs and enrichment activities. Today, technology skills are essential for individuals to succeed in school and the workforce.  Computers have become an essential tool in colleges, businesses, and corporations; however, homeless parents are not able to provide this great homework and academic enrichment tool.

Bakersfield Homeless Center’s (BHC) onsite Champ Camp Afterschool Program provides homeless children in grades K-8 with fun learning activities to enhance their psycho-social development and academic growth including one-on-one tutoring/homework help; arts and crafts; field trips; and special events (holiday/birthday parties, parent-child activities). Last school year, about 170 Champ Camp children received more than 2,000 hours of tutoring assistance.
