KCCD Receives Grant for Entrepreneurial Solar Industry Job Training

Good news for veterans! The Kern Community College District (KCCD) recently received $25,000 from Wells Fargo to fund a solar industry training program Sandra Serrano, KCCD chancellor, announced. The KCCD-Wells Fargo collaboration will fund an innovative partnership to provide skills and business ownership preparedness to local military veterans through KCCD’s Clean Energy Training Program. The community grant will underwrite the Veterans Solar Opportunity Project that transitions military veterans into the workforce. The program’s training enables veterans to secure well-compensated employment with contractors who install solar energy systems and provides information to veterans about starting their own solar sales consulting businesses. “Because of this program, local veterans will receive training for jobs in high demand, so they can compete in today’s alternative energy job market,” Chancellor Serrano said. The Veterans Solar Opportunity Project incorporates 104 hours in three training components including solar photovoltaic (PV) basics and sales plus, a first for the solar sales course, training in business and entrepreneurship which provides skills for veterans to start their own businesses. This training project gets underway in mid-July. For more information call Dave Teasdale at 661-336-5011.
