Gala Event to Premiere Film and Award $17,000 in Prizes

To help shine a light on the amazing accomplishment of a local father and son, the documentary David and Zach’s Quest to Sac premiers next month at the Fox Theater in Bakersfield. The film chronicles the adventurous journey of David and Zach Mensch of Bakersfield. In March 2012, fifty-two-year-old David, who has Cerebral Palsy, rode his motorized wheelchair from Bakersfield to the State Capital steps in Sacramento, with son Zach, 15, riding his bicycle alongside for support. Together, they covered more than 300 miles in 5 days. Along the way, David broke the world record for the most miles travelled in a powered wheelchair in a 24-hour period, had an emotional reunion in his hometown of Madera, held a press conference at the Capitol, and met with the Governor’s staff to share how budget cuts affect real people.

The premiere takes place June 8, with a wine and hors d’oeuvres VIP reception at 6:30 p.m. (film screens at 8 p.m.). Limited tickets for the reception and screening are $75; film-only admission is $25. After the show, a drawing will determine the winners of the Kern Assistive Technology Center’s inaugural “Show me the Money” sweepstakes, with a $10,000 first prize. Sweepstakes tickets are $100 (only 1,000 will be sold) and may be purchased before or at the event. Sweepstakes ticket holders need not be present to win. All proceeds benefit the Kern Assistive Technology Center. For more info or to view the film trailer, log on to davidandzachsquest.com or call 861-1346.
