Two Local High School Students Awarded Mettler Scholarships

The Kern County Farm Bureau is pleased to once again sponsor the Michael R. Mettler Memorial Scholarship, presented each year to high school seniors or college freshmen, sophomores or juniors who plan to study or are currently pursuing an agriculture-related major. The recipients receive $500 each year that they are in school, up to four years. This year, the scholarships were awarded to Oscar Alvarez of Arvin and Abigail Grisedale of Bakersfield. Alvarez recentlly graduated from Arvin High School where he was an active member of the Arvin High School FFA Chapter. He has gained agriculture experience by raising market livestock for the Kern County Fair and was the Manager of Arvin High School’s Farm Laboratory. Alvarez will be attending California State University, Bakersfield in the fall where he will study Agriculture Business and Law. Abigail Grisedale recentlly graduated from North High School where she was an active member of the North High School FFA Chapter. She is the 5th generation of the Grisedale Family Ranchers where she has grown up working in the beef industry. Grisedale will be attending college in the Midwest where she will be studying Agriculture Communications.
