CSUB Summer Econ Program Boasts Record Numbers

CSU Bakersfield recently announced its Enterprise College had its largest class ever complete the program this summer.  A total of 235 incoming senior students from 15 Kern High School District (KHSD) schools participated in this year’s three-week program, which educates students in the principles of economics and the essentials of leadership.

Enterprise College, founded in 1976, is offered through a partnership between CSUB and KHSD. High school students entering their senior year with at least a 3.0 Grade Point Average and enrollment in at least one College Preparation or Honors course during their junior year are eligible to apply. CSUB’s School of Business and Public Administration coordinates and offers the classes. Upon completion, students receive credit for both the college course Economics 100 (5 quarter units) and their senior-year required economics course.

“We increased our class size from 140 last year to 235 this year,” said Dr. Abbas Grammy, Professor of Economics at CSUB and Director and Instructor of Enterprise College. “I am pleased that more students are responding to the opportunity of collecting both high school and college credit.”

In addition to Grammy and several other Enterprise College instructors, Dr. Charles Wall, Emeritus Professor of Management, Bakersfield College and founder of Kindness Inc., provided students with valuable lessons of community involvement. The program is funded through the Young Scholars Program and the Mid State Development Corporation, which allows the student cost to be reduced from $1,000 to only $100.
