Young Local Artist Raises Money, Awareness

FDart
For an evening of art, wine and food, attend Delight your Senses this month, featuring award-winning artist Phillip Press, a local teen living with autism. Despite his challenges, Press has created beautiful African animal drawings that celebrate his love for animals and raise awareness for autism. Press’ passion for wild animals gives him an appreciation for life, and drawing them helps him to break down the borders of autism and allows him to share his talents with others.

Delight your Senses is sponsored by STEMdelivered.org, a local nonprofit, which promotes educational opportunities through book projects, writing competitions, game design clubs and the development of educational games featuring Press’ animals.

“By inspiring children to love science, technology, engineering and mathematics through innovative approaches to enrichment and education, we hope we can develop the future leaders of tomorrow,” said Karen Blake, President of STEMdelivered.org. “Phillip is an example of someone that has learned to deal with challenges through his art. We support his efforts because he is an example of how using creative means to share information; you can reach many people.”

Press’ art will be available for purchase, including stuffed animals, greeting cards, and other original pieces. Proceeds will be used by STEMdelivered.org to publish Matwa Finds a Brother, featuring artwork by Press and story by Matthew Geis.

Delight your Senses takes place October 4th, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., at Sustenance 101, 1810 Eye St. in Bakersfield. Admission is free, but tickets for wine pairing are $25 at the door.
