For Thanksgiving, Bakersfield North Rotary will provide turkey dinners for 350 families that might not have had a special meal this year. The food baskets are brimming with traditional holiday fare including a turkey, pie, five pounds of potatoes, stuffing, rolls, and various canned veggies. Now in their 12th year, Rotarians, along with the help of North High Interact students, will assemble baskets and distribute them on November 27 at the Standard School gymnasium at 115 East Minner Ave in Oildale. Families that have been identified as being in need by the Hope Center will receive a ticket to pick up their baskets. Donating these baskets aligns perfectly with Rotary’s principal motto, “Service Above Self,” says Bakersfield North Rotary President Scott Tobias of Tobias Real Estate. “I think most everybody feels at Thanksgiving that we are grateful for what we have, but it’s also important to give to those who are less fortunate,” says Tobias. “Many of these families would not have a Thanksgiving dinner without the help we give them through this event.”
