Local Family Creates Foundation to Honor Son

The Nick and Tracy Street family created the N8 Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation to honor their son, eight-year-old Nathan Street, who passed in February from DIPG, an aggressive brain tumor. May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month which helps to spread awareness about brain tumor facts, share knowledge, and help raise the call for new research and better treatments.

Nathan was a third grader at Thorner Elementary School. He loved BMX, Legos, and video games. He was diagnosed with DIPG in January 2014, which is a highly aggressive form of brain cancer that is hard to treat. Located in the brainstem, the tumor interferes with the body's ability to regulate its most vital functions breathing, blood pressure, and heart rate.

The N8 Foundation's mission is three-fold: (1) to promote awareness of pediatric brain cancer, and specifically, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Gliomas (DIPG); (2) to fund research to help find a cure and/or effective treatment(s) for DIPGs; and, (3) to financially assist families of children diagnosed with and actively receiving treatment for some form of brain cancer.

"One of the things that my wife and I realized early on during Nathan's battle against this disease was that it would be very difficult, if not impossible, to do it without outside support," Nathan's father, Nick Street says.. "Our family was incredibly fortunate and blessed to have tremendous support from family, friends and the community in general; however, we also realized that others are not so lucky. One of the main purposes of the Foundation is to bridge that gap and help those families in need so they know they are not alone and that we, as a community, are here to help."

Donations for The N8 Foundation can be sent to P.O. Box 6463, Bakersfield, CA 93386. For more information on brain cancer awareness month, please visit And, for more information about DIPG, visit
