April is National Autism Awareness Month, which provides an excellent opportunity to promote awareness, acceptance, and to draw attention to the tens of thousands facing an autism diagnosis each year. Valley Achievement (VAC) will be hosting its annual 5k Walk/Run event on April 16, 2016 at 1721 Westwind Drive, beginning at 7AM. After the run, participants can enjoy meeting professional race car drivers from the Carlos Vieira Foundation and Race for Autism organization and get a sneak peek inside a race car. All proceeds from this event will contribute to the continuation of the services VAC provides and offer resources for students and clients to achieve their full potential.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Autism affects nearly one out of every 68 children. The number of children diagnosed with autism continues to rise, and the number of adults with autism and developmental disabilities who require ongoing services and support increases each year. Since 1998, VAC has helped children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities reach their full potential and lead more fulfilling lives. The Center offers a full range of education, social skills, adaptive skills, supported living, and supported employment programs utilizing evidence based methods to meet the needs of children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
