Fight Hunger and Feed Souls

by Vaun Thygerson
Staff writer and mother of three
Join Morning Star Fresh Food Ministry to help fight hunger and feed souls at their fundraising event, "Fight Night," on Saturday, April 23 at 5:30 p.m. at The Horse Ranch, 7301 Cottonwood Road. The night's festivities include dinner served by Luigi's at 7:00 p.m., silent and live auction items, and entertainment by local band Lonely Avenue.

Bakersfield ranked number one in food hardship in the country, according to Food Research Action Center (FRAC). When Bret Sill saw this statistic, he knew he had to do something to help those families who were hungry, so he founded this ministry. Each month, Morning Star delivers fresh food boxes to families in need, which include quality meats from a local butcher shop and produce from nearby farms. Last month they delivered 275 family food boxes to help those in need. His goal is to serve 1,000 families. For $35 per month, you can sponsor a local family and you can also volunteer monthly to help assemble and distribute food boxes.
