Host or Become a Foreign Exchange Student

Cultural Homestay International, Inc. (CHI) has been placing students from Bakersfield in foreign countries as well as bringing foreign students to live locally. This organization has been "Opening doors to the world since 1980" and giving everyone involved a wonderful opportunity to have their lives changed.

"I love the fact that we have the opportunity to change a life, make a difference one student at a time. America is unique, and Bakersfield is very 'All American,'" says Theresa Mawson, CHI Academic Coordinator. "Bakersfield is a great community to set a good example for students. Students will return home with a positive experience and make a difference in their own hometown."

Mawson shares a powerful story about a girl that is going to work with the deaf when she returns to Asia, because her local host family introduced her to their own careers working with the deaf population. In her country, they do not have sign language or positive attitudes and communication with the deaf in general.

To apply to host a foreign exchange student or to become one for a 10-month commitment, please visit www.chinet.org or call 1-800-432-4643.
