A local therapist, Dr. David Forden, recently published his book on kindness and sharing called Winning the REAL Prize at the Easter Egg Hunt. The heart of the story is based on a real-life incident where a child named Scotty loses an Easter egg hunt because he shares too many of his eggs with other children.

“This story is about how a generous spirit can be lived out in a practical way.  When Scotty shared his treasured eggs with the other children, he discovered there was joy in being able to think of others and in seeing them happy,” Forden says. “It is also a story about overcoming the grief of disappointment.  It shows how a parent can help a child see a tragedy with different eyes and, as a result, see how feelings and understandings can change.”

Forden is a retired licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, an ordained minister, and retired US Army Reserve Chaplain for 29 years. Following his retirement from the military he became a Military Family Life Consultant (MFLC).  MFLC’s are clinically licensed civilians who travel to military installations throughout the world counseling with military personnel and their families. It was during his time as a MFLC in Germany that he met the real-life family behind the story of the book.

Winning the REAL Prize at the Easter Egg Hunt is available on Amazon and Kindle.
