Open Goal Project and Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) are taking their in-person, professional-level training digital with Chevron Soccer Academy Online Training a program designed to integrate the drills, skills, and fun of physical soccer camps into today's socially-distant new normal.

Since 2018, the mission of the Chevron Soccer Academy (CSA) has been to create accessible soccer opportunities for youth and provide the proper resources, knowledge, and support system for players to learn and grow on and off the field. Now, Chevron is bringing CSA online. The virtual program is designed to help ensure children still have access to professional-level soccer training at a time when Covid-19 has limited youth from competing in the sport they love.

"Chevron is beyond proud to partner with both Open Goal Project and LAFC to bring the Chevron Soccer Academy directly to people's doors," said Gina Pettit, Community Engagement Advisor for Chevron in Kern County. "We're thrilled we've been able to find a new way to continue delivering free access to soccer opportunities, and we can't wait to see kids show off their new skills when we resume our in-person camps."

Approximately 300 kids ages 9-18 from Lost Hills will receive a special kit containing all the gear they need to play and practice soccer on their own at home. The kit also seamlessly launches training videos via a QR code, so kids can keep up with the same high-level soccer instruction that they received at previous Chevron Soccer Academy events. This year's training videos feature former and current professional athletes giving lessons on soccer skills from footwork to shooting drills.

"In a time when our communities are facing unparalleled challenges, providing the Chevron Soccer Academy by Open Goal Project in a virtual capacity is crucial to the continued growth of our student-athletes. The Chevron Soccer Academy 'In A Box' concept delivers a custom, high-level soccer curriculum led by world-renowned former pros and much-needed resources to exercise safely for the young men and women we serve. Open Goal Project is proud to continue our partnership with Chevron to bring another incredibly impactful program to the families in the Central Valley."

CSA kits began arriving in Lost Hills beginning the week of December 7, 2020. As an integral part of the California community for over a century, Chevron is committed to building lasting partnerships that help kids thrive on and off the field.

Through its San Joaquin Valley Business Unit based in Bakersfield, Chevron is a leading producer of oil and natural gas in California.

LAFC is part of Major League Soccer. Their inaugural season launched in March 2018.
