Wounded Heroes Fund

With more than 40,000 casualties from the current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, many of these men and women have sustained serious injuries resulting in permanent disability. The Kern County Wounded Heroes Fund (WHF) wants to help meet the unmet needs of these heroes who have sacrificed so much for our country. WHF will host a "Salute to Our Local Heroes" dinner at the Kern County Fairgrounds on March 1st.
An all-volunteer, non-profit organization, WHF will provide direct support to the wounded soldiers and their families such as transport-ation costs, lodging, home modification to ac- commodate injuries, and job training. Volunteers will also organize visits to military hospitals to distribute "care packages" highlighting the best of Bakersfield and provide a meal and enter-tainment for the patients and their families.
In addition, WHF will support other not-for-profit organizations that are providing services to the wounded soldiers and their families. Visit www.TheWoundedHeroesFund.org for more information. Please email Wendy Porter, Exec-utive Director, at KCWoundedHeroes@aol.com to find out how you can join the local WHF and support this cause.
