SIX LOCAL SCOUTS RECEIVE EAGLE AWARD AT COURT OF HONOR

Bakersfield's Boy Scouts of America Southern Sierra Council Trooop 53 recently awarded six scouts the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor. The new Eagle Scouts: Blake Brown, Jr., Reid Levitz, Mason Urmston, Michael Ingram, Jacob Graff, and Logan Urmston, range in age from 15 to 18 years old.

"Just two percent of the boys who enter Scouting ever earn its highest honor: the rank of Eagle Scout," says Jeff Wagner, Scoutmaster of Troop 53. "Only those scouts who remain focused, dedicated, and committed during what is probably the most challenging period of a young man's life will ever earn this award."

These scouts completed their individual Eagle service projects in the last eleven months. The projects included leading teams and the community in obtaining highly needed resources for the Bakersfield Rescue Mission and for soldiers serving in Afghanistan and improving the facilities at M.A.R.E.

"It was a miracle what these [scouts] provided physically, but what they provided spiritually changed lives," says Reverend Alfonso Frazier, director of the Bakersfield Rescue Mission.
