Local Retailers Raise Money for the Cure

Christine's, Lolo's, and Victoria's boutique shops join together with Links for Life to help raise money for Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Both Christine's and Victoria's will feature Brighton's exclusive Power of Pink Bracelet and Badge Clip. If you purchase this commemorative jewelry, a portion of the proceeds go directly to Links for Life.

All three boutiques will have models don festive fashions from their store's collections during the Paint the Town Pink Fashion Show on October 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel. This year's theme is "Give Breast Cancer the Boot."

Christine's will host its annual "Bunco to Benefit Links for Life" on October 20 at 6:30 p.m. A Bunco night is the perfect way to enjoy time with friends. Not only does your entry fee help support a worthwhile cause, but you also have the chance to win Brighton jewelry or accessories. To register, call 834-3068 or visit www.shopchristines.com.

Lori Malkin, owner of Christine's and Lolo's, says the whole month of October they go crazy with "pink" awareness from store decorations to fundraisers to an opportunity drawing for pink luggage from Brighton. "The whole month of October anything we do, we promote Links for Life," she says. "It's a local non-profit that really touched my heart."

Victoria's "Kisses for Cures" Bingo Night on October 28 at 6:30 p.m. includes a night with Bakersfield's finest firefighters, hors d'ouvers, prizes, and a lively game of Bingo. All proceeds from this event help women of Kern County. To register, call 665-8300.

Victoria Diffee, owner of Victoria's, says so many women in Bakersfield have been touched by breast cancer. Even one of her co-workers in her retail family is now a five-year breast cancer survivor thanks to breast cancer awareness programs. "These programs help you get through the bumpy road of life," she says.
