CALM Welcomes Francis the Badger

California Living Museum (CALM) announces a new resident - an eight-year-old, American badger named Francis. He comes to CALM from Wildlife Care of Ventura County where he resided for several years after fires had devastated his native habitat. CALM's last badger, Cali, passed away six years ago at age 15. Francis's new home will be near the Raptors enclosure in the northeast section of the zoo.

To get an up-close-and-personal look at animals like Francis, CALM introduces its Toddler Tales Educational Program. Each month, children will have a new adventure. Toddler Tales (age three to five) will be held the first Wednesday (November 4) from 10 a.m. to noon. The facility also hosts CALM Adventurers (age six to nine) on the second Saturday of each month (November 14) from 10 a.m. to noon. No classes are scheduled in December but will resume in January. Class size is limited so call 872-2256, ext. 12, to make a reservation.

CALM will host its annual tradition, "Feast for the Beasts," on November 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Visitors may donate animal food (approved food only) in exchange for regular admission. For a complete list of approved items, visit www.calmzoo.org.

CALM is located at 10500 Alfred Harrell Highway, between Lake Ming and Hart Park in northeast Bakersfield and has provided a residence for 26 years to injured and abandoned animals that are no longer able to live on their own in the wild.
