Bakersfield Man to Receive Major Award

The Southern California Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society recently honored Van Roberts with the "Sylvia Lawry Founder of the Year" award. This award is presented to one person each year to recognize his or her volunteer efforts in developing and implementing a new program or event for the Chapter.

Roberts, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) five years ago, has helped countless families all around California by using his expertise in home building to develop the unique "Around the House: Home Improvements to Meet Your Changing Needs" program. Roberts has taken the educational program all over the state including Long Beach, Palm Desert, and Riverside to teach people with MS and their families how to make design modifications on the smallest or biggest of budgets to make life at home safer, easier, and more comfortable.

For more information on the award, or any of the programs or services of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, call the Kern County office at 661.321.9512 or visit www.nationalmssociety.org.
