New Chief of Police
Captain Greg Williamson
City Manager Alan Tandy has announced the promotion of Greg S. Williamson to succeed Chief of Police Bill Rector. Williamson, a twenty-one-year veteran with the Bakersfield Police Department, has most recently served at the rank of Captain in the Operations Division.
Tandy would like to acknowledge Chief Rector for his dedicated career in law enforcement and for providing exemplary leadership in the Police Department. "Chief Rector's standard of excellence as a leader and mentor was highly evident in the candidates who applied to succeed him. While selecting the new police chief was a difficult decision, the process clearly showed that the Police Department continues to produce capable and talented leaders who are well prepared to assume the challenging responsibilities of top level management."
"Greg has a forthright and affable communication style that will be a positive component in his interface within the Police Department and with the public," Tandy says. Although the City will continue to experience some very challenging financial and operational challenges, I welcome the opportunity to move forward with Chief Williamson and his management team."
Captain Williamson graduated from California State University, San Diego in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration. He received a Master of Arts Degree in Public Administration from California State University, Bakersfield in 1997. He began his service with the Bakersfield Police Department as a police officer in 1989 and has since progressed through the ranks of supervisory and management positions.
