Eight Kern County Students earn state history honors
Eight students from Fruitvale Junior High achieved honors in three categories at the recent History Day in the California competition. The annual competition focused on the national theme, "Innovation in History," and brought together those students who had won History Day competitions in their own home counties to challenge for the title of state champion. All of Kern County's state winners are eligible to compete in National History Day this month at the University of Maryland.
Congratulations to the following history day state champions: Andrew Kerwin, Individual Performance category; Sameen Bramer, Brittany Louey, Amy Williams, Ramie Sahota, and Calvin Laverty, Group Performance category; and Olivia Belda and Makay Moss, Group Exhibits category.
Three of the students, Sameen Bramer, Ramie Sahota, and Calvin Laverty, will have a chance to repeat as national champions. They will be going back to nationals where they won in the same category last year.
