Locks of Love

Two sisters and their friend received free, short summer haircuts and donated their locks to help children in need. Makenzie Johnson, age 10, Aubrey Johnson, age 9, and Rachel Chidester, age 10, each donated at least 10 inches of their hair to Locks of Love, a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to children who suffer from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis. Great Clips gives free haircuts for any donation to this charity.

This was Makenzie's third time donating her hair; she donated the first time when she was in second grade. This was her friend Rachel's second time and her sister Aubrey's first time donating their hair. They say they feel happy to help kids who need this service.

"If you know anyone in need, you should probably help them by donating your hair," Aubrey says. "It would also make them feel really happy and you too."

Locks of Love's mission is to return a sense of self, confidence, and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive their hairpieces free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.
