National Kidney Disease Awareness and Education Week

Twenty-six million Americans have chronic kidney disease (CKD) and millions more are at risk. American Nurses Nephrology Association has dedicated the week of August 9 13 to help raise awareness and promote education about kidney disease and treatment options.

"Kidneys are a vital organ in the human body. This organ is highly responsible for blood purification and other waste filtration in the body," says Kern Nephrology Medical Group's Nurse Manager Marycela S. Tamez. "Life cannot continue without it."

Tamez says people at risk of CKD include those with diabetes, hypertension, family history, or kidney diseases. Three simple tests can detect CKD: blood pressure, urine albumin, and serum creatine.

For more information call 1-888-KIDNEY or visit www.yourkidneys.com or www.annanurse.org. You can also call Kern Nephrology Medical Group at 661-324-4721.
