Jim Burke Education Foundation Announces Education Awards

At the 16th Annual Teacher of the Year Awards Night, the Directors of Jim Burke Education Foundation announced the recipients of this year's educator's awards: Eric Olinger, a Special Day Class teacher at Stonecreek Junior High School, and Michelle Nixon, an English and A.V.I.D. instructor at Bakersfield High School. In total, over $19,000 was distributed to schools, educators, community organizations, and college students.

Each year, the Jim Burke Education Foundation recognizes educators within Kern County who have provided outstanding service to students, school, and community. A total of 29 teachers were honored at the event with two being selected as the "Teachers of the Year." Each recipient was presented a framed letter from one of their students, a gift from the Foundation, a Waterford Crystal vase, $500 stipend, and $500 contribution in their name to a department within their school.
