CSUB student Natalie Smith needed to complete community service hours for school and the kids in Champ Camp needed a project. Combining their efforts, they planted a garden behind the administration office at the Bakersfield Homeless Center. With the help of 27 children from Champ Camp and a few adult volunteers, they enjoyed planting tomatoes, strawberries, cantaloupe, corn, and much more.
Champ Camp is a program where homeless children get help and encouragement in a safe place where they can relax and feel free from the pressures and stigma of homelessness. Through programs like this, homeless children can begin to see a more positive future for themselves and their families.
