Why I'm Thankful


Thanksgiving season gives us many opportunities to rejoice in family and friends and celebrate all that blesses our lives. KCFM wanted to find out what local families were thankful for this year.  We caught up with some of them enjoying the fun indoor activities at American Kids Sports Center and we found others taking pleasure in this gorgeous fall weather. Here’s what they had to say.

The Stancliffe sisters, Ashley, age 15, and Kaitlyn, age 12, enjoy a perfect Fall evening in their backyard.  They both say the are thankful for the same things: “Family, friends, and church.”

Siblings Kaedin and Calista Bryan enjoy a beautiful Fall afternoon exploring Kern County.  Kaedin, age six, says, “I am thankful for God, life, family, and friends.” Calista, age five, says, “I am thankful for God, my family, and everyone around me.”

Seventeen-year-old Josh Wright is a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He says, “I’m thankful for friends and family because they always have my back. They are my motivation.”

Seven-year-old Lauren Spendlove snuggles with her furry friend during this Fall season. She says, “I am thankful for my dog, Duke, because I love him so much!”

Master Ba’sani Frazier, assistant Tae Kwon Do instructor at AKSC, says, “I am thankful everyday that the Lord blesses me with what I can do for the kids.  That I can have a say in their future and give them direction.”

A green belt in Tae Kwon Do, eight-year-old LaTahj Ross says, “I am thankful for this country that I live in because the Army and Navy people protect us.”

Eleven-year-old Matthew Spendlove loves playing soccer at a local Kern County park.  He says, “I am thankful for sports because it so fun!”

While five-year-old Olivia Grijalvaa watches her little sister Grace take a gymanstics class she says, “I am thankful for my friends because I like them and I play with them a lot.”

A senior yellow belt in Tae Kwon Do, Ba’sani Frazier, Jr., age 11, says he’s grateful for “Jesus because he died on the cross for us and if it wasn’t for him, none of us would be here.”

Enjoying a beautiful Fall afternoon, Rachel Spendlove, age 11, has many things to be grateful for.  She says, “I am thankful for my house because it gives me everything I need.”

Gymnast Zach Whitmore, age 10, competes for AKSC, and he says, “I’m thankful for my friends and family. They are fun and they take care of me and they help me.”

Father and daughter, Pete and Pearl Chavez, wait at AKSC while Pearl’s little sister, Chloe, takes a gymnastics class.  Pete says he is most grateful for his two daughters.  Eight-year-old Pearl is a white belt in Tae Kwon Do and hopes to become a yellow belt soon.  She says, “I am glad my parents put me into Tae Kwon Do and piano.  I love Tae Kwon Do because I get to do a lot of kicking and tournaments.  I love piano because I love playing beautiful songs.”
