High school students honored for lifesaving blood donations

Kern County high school blood donors set an all-time record during the 2011-12 school year by donating 7,637 units of blood – up 15 percent from last year.  With an estimated three people being helped by every unit of blood donated, Kern County high school students touched the lives of 22,911 with their donations this year.

Twenty-six area high schools competed in the “Give It Up” Challenge by holding blood collection drives. With Kern County high schools varying in size, “Challenge” winners were awarded in four categories: petite school; small school; medium school; and large school.

Congratulations to Bakersfield’s Centennial High School and Ridgeview High School, Delano’s Cesar Chavez High School, Ridgecrest’s Immanuel Christian High School, and Frazier Mountain High School.
