Bakersfield Teen to Train for 2016 Olympics

archery
Stockdale High School senior LaNola Pritchard has been accepted to train as a resident athlete at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, California. Pritchard will move to the San Diego area this fall to continue intensive archery training, with hopes of competing in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

At 17, Pritchard has already achieved much success in her sport, including placing first in the US Indoor Nationals tournament last February and finishing sixth at the recent Pan Am World Championships held in El Salvador, breaking three national archery records this year alone.

Like many athletes, Pritchard started early, at age 6, and has spent several years practicing archery 2-3 hours a day, six days a week. Now, on the brink of this latest challenge,  Pritchard says she feels “a little scared, but really excited” to leave home and family to train with other potential Olympic athletes.
