As part of its commitment to reduce its carbon footprint, CSU Bakersfield will make its third appearance in the annual RecycleMania competition, a nationwide, student-led, friendly competition that began last month and continues through March 30th. The contest pits colleges and universities in a race to see who can reduce, reuse, and recycle the most campus waste while offering the winning schools bragging rights and special awards made of recycled materials.

“Our students are committed to advancing the culture of recycling on campus. Recycling is one part of our larger environmental sustainability goals to reduce waste, use energy-efficient appliances, and use alternative sources of energy and transportation,” said CSUB President Horace Mitchell.

The community can participate in the CSUB competition by recycling e-waste at Alianza. Electrical items that will be accepted include answering machines, camcorders, compact disk players, copiers, DVD/VCR players, electronic games, fax machines, laptops, cell phones, modems, pagers, PDA’s, personal computers (CPU, monitors, keyboards, mice, and peripherals), printers, radios, remote controls, and scanners.

Throughout the competition, CSUB will report its recycling tonnage to the national competition and will be ranked against other universities across the country. For more information, please visit csub.edu/recyclemania or http://recyclemaniacs.org. To deposit e-waste at Alianza, visit them at 2301 Gibson Street or call 661-873-4011.
