Give Your Time, Give Yourself

The Volunteer Center of Kern County is celebrating some very special local residents. The Retired & Senior Volunteer Program coordinates hundreds of older local volunteers, sharing their time and talents with programs like The Gleaners, Food Bank, Court Appointed Special Advocates, various hospitals, and law enforcement agencies.

At a special recognition luncheon held recently, several of these volunteers were honored for donating more than one thousand hours of their time to local organizations in the past year.

Gregg De Santis volunteers with the “Meals on Wheels” program delivering food in the Kern River Valley. “I believe in what the program provides to so many and that the seniors of our community need to get the help,” says De Santis. He also encourages everyone to get involved in some way.

The Volunteer Center of Kern County has been serving our community for forty years. According to Executive Director, Brenda Ratliff, the Volunteer Center puts $64 million back into Kern County in services through volunteers each and every year.
