“This is due to program savings we’ve accomplished over the last few years related to landfill closure, cart replacement, rerouting, and green waste facility electrification,” Moretti said.
In addition, a new law, AB 341, requires Bakersfield businesses that generate over 4 cubic yards of trash per week to recycle. The City has a blue bin recycling program and an award-winning organics recycling program available for those businesses who are interested.
“The City, in conjunction with the local haulers, is always looking for ways to improve refuse and recycling services to the public,” Moretti said. “Adding blue cart, blue bin and food waste recycling options to Bakersfield residents and businesses are just further examples of how we strive to serve the public.”
Blue bins will also be provided to Kern County residents who live in Metro Bakersfield unincorporated areas as part of Universal Collections. Those residents who live in dwellings with 1 to 4 units will receive one blue bin per household for an additional fee of $3 per month added to their yearly property tax bill. Bin pickup will be every other week.
