KERN COUNTY—In response to ongoing Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) by Southern California Edison (SCE) in the Kern River Valley, community support services are available to assist residents in staying safe.

Transportation Available: Call 1-800-323-2396, select option 2, and let the dispatcher know you are requesting free transportation to the cooling center.

CalFresh Benefit Replacement for Food Loss

Households receiving CalFresh who experience a loss of food due to a household misfortune, such as a prolonged power outage, may request a replacement of CalFresh benefits. The request must be made within 10 calendar days of the loss.

How to report food loss and request CalFresh replacement:


The form may also be returned by mail; however, this is not recommended as it must be received by the county within 10 days of the loss.



Water Safety for Private Wells

Water Systems Subject to Power Outages: A water system that relies on well pump(s) or booster pump(s) that does not have a back-up source of power (generators) will lose water pressure and subsequently could allow dirty outside water to enter the water lines and contaminate the water system.
