Households receiving CalFresh who experience a loss of food due to a household misfortune, such as a prolonged power outage, may request a replacement of CalFresh benefits. The request must be made within 10 calendar days of the loss.
How to report food loss and request CalFresh replacement:
- Call the Customer Assistance Telecenter at 1-877-410-8812
- In person at any DHS location
- Complete the replacement form and drop off at any DHS location, upload to BenefitsCal account, or fax to (661) 633-7498
The form may also be returned by mail; however, this is not recommended as it must be received by the county within 10 days of the loss.
Water Safety for Private Wells
Water Systems Subject to Power Outages: A water system that relies on well pump(s) or booster pump(s) that does not have a back-up source of power (generators) will lose water pressure and subsequently could allow dirty outside water to enter the water lines and contaminate the water system.
More Information: Visit Kern County Public Health for water well disinfection tips following a power outage. Disinfection of contaminated water systems and wells
As more information becomes available, updates will be posted to the County website www.kerncounty.com and on the County’s official social media channels.
