“The Open Door Network’s Annual Back-to-School Giveaway”

Bakersfield, CA – Friday, August 2, 2024 —

The Open Door Network is happy to announce its Back-to-School Giveaway being held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at 1600 E. Truxtun Ave. This event, in collaboration with Bakersfield East Rotary, Bank of America, and KGET, is designed to provide essential school supplies and clothing to children living in our shelters. Our Back-to-School Giveaway is a vital part of our mission to support over 150 children staying in our shelters across Kern County.

The Back-to-School Giveaway is an event that collects new school supplies for students from kindergarten through 12th grade, as well as new and gently used clothing. This year, The Open Door Network will be distributing an array of essential items, including backpacks, binders, notebooks, pens, pencils, calculators, highlighters, markers, erasers, folders and more. Additionally, we will provide new and gently used clothing and undergarments for boys and girls, and water bottles. By equipping children with these essential items, we not only address immediate needs but also help them build confidence, overcome obstacles, and envision a brighter future.

“Providing new supplies and clothing is crucial for creating an environment where children feel valued and capable as they embark on the school year,” said Lauren Skidmore, CEO of The Open Door Network. New school supplies and fresh clothing represent new beginnings and opportunities for children who may face significant challenges. For many of these students, starting the school year with new items helps dismantle barriers and fosters a sense of possibility, encouraging them to dream big and strive for success.

In-person interviews will be available at the event with Lauren Skidmore, CEO of The

Open Door Networks, and Fernando Aguirre, Membership Director of the Bakersfield East Rotary from 8:45 AM until 10:00 AM. If you are interested in interviewing clients or require more information, please reach out to Lauren Skidmore at lskidmore@opendoorhelps.org.

We look forward to your participation and support in making this year’s Back-to-School Giveaway a success, and in witnessing the positive change it brings to our community’s children.
