Summer is here, and families are ready to splash, play, and cool off around Kern County. Our Spray Park Summer Guide brings together all the free, family‑friendly water play locations across the city, making it easy to plan your next outing. Whether you’re looking for a quick afternoon cool‑down or a full day of fun, these spots are open all season long.
Unsupervised Water Play at Kern County Spray Parks
Open May 23rd - September 7th. 11 AM - 6 PM. CLOSED ON MONDAYS (Excluding HOLIDAYS)
*Adjusted hours during heat waves. *Water restrictions may further limit times/days.

Recreation Public Swimming Pools
POOL RULES
- Proper swimming attire is required for those entering the pool
- Life jackets must be U.S. Coast Guard-approved. Non-approved flotation devices are not allowed
- Outside food and drinks are not allowed at McMurtrey & MLK
- Food & drinks are allowed at Silver Creek & Jefferson in picnic areas (no glass containers)
- Children 48” and under require one-on-one adult supervision within arms reach
- Must be at least 48” to ride the slides at McMurtrey Aquatic Center
- McMurtrey diving boards open during special events only
- Swim diapers are required for all diapered guests

DISCOUNT DAY at Public Swimming Pools: Wednesday, July 1st, 2026
In celebration of Recreation and Parks Month, the City of Bakersfield is offering discounted open swim.
McMurtrey Aquatic Center will be discounted to $3 per person. FREE Swim at Jefferson, MLK, and Silver Creek Pools.
Family Fun Nights: July 10th & 31st
Children and adults can play games, swim, zoom down the water slides, and launch off the diving board! Spin the wheel at the “Rethink your Drink” and Water Safety booths to win prizes.
McMurtrey Aquatic Center
6:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
$5 per person.
Sensory-Friendly Autism Family Swim Day
In partnership with Bakersfield Recreation & Parks, McMurtrey Aquatic Center, and Kern Autism Network, there will be a sensory-friendly Autism Family Swim Day!
In an effort to offer programs and activities for our local Kern Autism Families, they are offering this one-day experience to socialize with other Autism families while enjoying the water in the warm weather of Bakersfield.
This event requires registration and is ONLY OPEN to Autism Families.
