NeeDoh "Peace o' Cake" Sensory Toy
Determined to find these squishy sensory toys, we searched the mall and just about every store that might have them in stock. Then we struck gold. Bobbi's Hallmark announced a new shipment of NeeDohs, and when we arrived, there was already a line—a very long one. By the time we finally reached the NeeDoh gatekeeper, we learned there was a limit of three per person. While we waited, we had become friends with a woman who needed four NeeDohs for her four grandchildren. I happily used one of my three to help her out. With everyone in our group buying the maximum allowed, my nieces were absolutely thrilled. Out in the parking lot, I discreetly handed my extra NeeDoh to my new friend. The things Gen X does for its people.

Special thanks to this month’s featured mama, who is a shining example of healthy, active living. In the article “Hello, Happy (Fit) Mama: Gina Rolow,” Callie Collins introduces readers to the 67-year-old local fitness expert, mom, and grandmother who has made healthy habits a lifelong priority. Beyond inspiring others through fitness, Gina also volunteers with Bakersfield Strays, a local dog rescue organization. August celebrates both National Back-to-School Month and Get Ready for Kindergarten Month. To help your little ones prepare for these exciting milestones, Andrea Rose has curated a collection of books to make the journey a little easier. In “Smart Reads for First‑Day Nerves” on page 18, she shares recommended reads for children of all ages.
As summer memories begin to fade and back-to-school excitement fills the air, whether you're hunting for NeeDohs or the perfect backpack, remember to savor every moment. Going back to school and returning to schedules and routines can be an adjustment for the whole family, but it also brings new opportunities to make memories together.
Wishing everyone a wonderful first day of school!
