"At Kids First Dentistry, when the team dresses up, the fun level skyrockets. Our crew always brings big smiles and even bigger fun, " says Dr. Justin Deguzman, primary owner and dentist at Kids First Dentistry. Photo Credit: Stacey Payne
Dr. Justin has released his own song, “C’mon and Brush with Me,” available on all streaming platforms, along with a music video featuring local children. The upbeat project reflects his philosophy that going to the dentist should be an experience children can feel excited about, not fear.

A Sacramento native, Dr. Justin attended dental school in Chicago before returning to Northern California. He moved to Bakersfield in 2023 to work for a dental group and purchased Kids First Dentistry in May 2026. Since taking ownership, he has increased the practice’s patient base, expanded the staff, and upgraded equipment, computers, televisions, and arcade games, creating an environment designed specifically for kids. His plans for the practice don’t stop there. He already has two more songs ready to produce and plans to expand into the building next door, adding two surgical suites and more administrative space.

Dr. Justin encourages his staff to do what they need to do to make someone’s day better, while also creating a welcoming experience for children and families. Once a month, the office holds a spirit week, with staff members dressing in costumes. He calls it a “culture of fun.” He also plays guitar and sings to patients and has impromptu Karaoke days.
His own children, ages 8 and 12, also inspire him. Much of what he does comes from how he would want someone to treat his children. He wants them, and every child, to understand that dental care does not have to be frightening.
That philosophy is especially important for children who have struggled in traditional dental settings. Dr. Justin welcomes children with developmental disabilities and those on the autism spectrum. Rather than treating physical restraint as a go-to solution, the practice explores other approaches first, using patience, trust, communication, and individualized care to help children feel safe and comfortable. He also empowers parents to advocate for their children by asking questions, voicing concerns, and working with the dental team to determine the best approach.
