H.E.A.R.T.S. (Help, Educate, Advocate, Resources, Training, Support) Connection is a program that provides support for parents of special needs children. They have recently moved to a new location, 200 South Montclair Street, Unit A, in Bakersfield. However, they continue to offer the same support as they have before, with the same phone number (661-328-9005). That support includes resources, such as educational information about IEP's and books to help the parent of the special needs child. They also help parents navigate the emotional landscape of having a special needs child, whether that is medical or educational, helping them realize some children will require hospitalization, speech therapy, physical therapy or special education. Besides this, they often host events, including family fun days and sibling activity days. They no longer offer the H.E.A.R.T.S. connection playgroup on a monthly basis, but still support the Sensory Storytime sessions about Beale Memorial Library.
